Edgewood native Lorpu Mulbah has been charged with arson following an investigation by the Maryland Fire Marshal, which determined she allegedly intentionally set her parent's house ablaze late on Friday night.

At around 11:30 p.m. on May 10, crews from the Abington Fire Company and nearby agencies were called to the 600 block of Mulberry Lane, when an automatic fire alarm was sounded.

Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the residence, and inside, thy found no one inside, but a fire inside one of the bedrooms.

"The fire department was initially alerted for an automatic alarm, and when they arrived, they discovered smoke and fire coming from the home," investigators said.

"Firefighters were able to contain the fire to one bedroom, with extensive smoke, soot, and water damage throughout the home."

It took first responders just minutes to get the flames under control, and Harford County Sheriff's deputies were tipped off that Mulbah, who lived in the home with her parents, called other family members and threatened to burn their homes in Baltimore County.

During the subsequent investigation into the suspicious blaze, the Fire Marshal concluded that Mulbah allegedly intentionally set the fire, and she was convinced by her parents to turn herself in when they returned to the country.

The motive for the arson remains under investigation by the Maryland Fire Marshal.

Mulbah was charged with first-degree arson, first-degree malicious burning, and arson threat.

She is being held without bond at the Harford County Detention Center.
